PAge title: Making a difference

St Emmanuel's church, Bestwood: repairs to the domed ceiling of the apse, and restoration of two circular Victorian wall paintings.

General view looking east into the Apse with ceiling and wall paintings, during their cleaning, conservation, and restoration - November 2005

Apse Wall Paintings: a) 'During' restoration - after cleaning and removal of overpainting hiding losses; b) After retouching

Nave, north wall: a) After cleaning - removal of old and loose plaster fills to crack, obvious poor colour matching to blue background;
b) Angel on the left in the process of being relocated. Note the tracing and drawing to help with the reconstruction. Angel on the right has had the vertical crack filled, loose plaster fixed and first stage of retouching.

Nave, north wall: a) Angels after cleaning, repair and retouching.
b) Angel 'after' (notice extensive use of gold leaf to match corresponding angel on opposite side of arch).
